Is Fomo App Legit? Is It Safe?
Short answer: the company is real, the funding is public and the wallet is built so the company cannot touch your money. The risk lives in what you buy on it, and in the copycats pretending to be it. Here is everything we could verify.
Is Fomo app legit?
Fomo is a legitimate crypto trading app from FOMO Labs, Inc., backed by Benchmark and Index Ventures with $94M raised. The wallet is self-custodial, so the company cannot move your funds. The meme coins on it are still a gamble.
The facts you can check yourself
Every claim below is public. If a page selling you a "Fomo app" cannot match these, it is not the real one.
- CompanyFOMO Labs, Inc., San Francisco. The App Store and Google Play listings both name it as the developer.
- FoundersPaul Erlanger, Se Yong Park and Prashan Dharmasena. All three worked together on the dYdX derivatives exchange before starting Fomo.
- Funding$2M pre-seed in February 2025 from about 140 angels. $17M Series A in November 2025 led by Benchmark. $75M Series B in June 2026 led by Index Ventures at a $550M valuation.
- LaunchiOS and Android in May 2025. Web app at fomo.family in April 2026. Perps in June 2026. Robinhood Chain in July 2026.
- Store listingsApp Store: "fomo - never miss out", id 6741115427. Google Play package: family.fomo.app.
- ScaleMore than 625,000 users and over $4 billion in cumulative volume as of August 2026 per DefiLlama, up from about 120,000 users a year earlier, with a team of around 17 people.
How Fomo keeps your money safe
Fomo is a self-custodial wallet that looks like a normal app. That one design choice explains most of the safety story.
Split keys
Your private key is created on sign-up and split with Shamir secret sharing between your device and Fomo's infrastructure, using Privy's embedded wallet stack. Neither half can sign on its own. FOMO Labs cannot move your funds, freeze them or spend them.
No seed phrase
You log in with an email code or your Apple ID. There is nothing to write down, which also means there is nothing for a phishing site to ask you for.
Exportable
The wallet settings let you export the private key and import it into Phantom, Backpack or MetaMask. Your tokens are on-chain, not in a Fomo database.
Biometrics
Face ID or fingerprint can be required for every trade and withdrawal since the January 2026 update.
Regulated on-ramp
Apple Pay, Google Pay and card deposits run through Coinbase's on-ramp, which handles card fraud and chargebacks on its side.
What is safe
- The company, its investors and its store listings
- Custody: Fomo cannot spend or freeze your funds
- Card and Apple Pay deposits, handled by Coinbase
- Withdrawing to any external wallet at any time
What is risky
- Meme coins themselves. Most go to zero
- Selling in a spike: some users report slow or failed sells
- Perps with leverage can liquidate your position in minutes
- Losing both your email and Apple ID without an exported key
Where people actually lose money
None of the complaints we found are about Fomo stealing funds. They are about what Fomo makes easy.
- The token, not the app. Fomo lists new Pump.fun and Four.meme launches within seconds. A large share of those are rugs. The safety score and blue verification tick help, but a green score is not a promise.
- Liquidity on the way out. A handful of Trustpilot reviews and Reddit threads describe sells that failed or filled badly during a fast dump. That is the on-chain pool running dry, and it happens on every app, but Fomo's one-tap buying means people get in faster than they think about getting out.
- Leverage. Perps run on Hyperliquid with a 0.05% builder fee per side. Leverage works the same way it does everywhere: a 10x position is gone after a 10% move against you. Perps are also blocked for anyone in the United States.
- Small trades. The 0.5% fee has a floor of about $0.95 on Solana. On a $5 buy that is 19%, not 0.5%. Fomo is not built for micro-trades.
- Feeds are designed to make you act. Push alerts when a trader you follow buys are useful and also very good at triggering exactly the emotion the app is named after.
How to make sure you have the real app
- Install only from the two store links on our download page or from fomo.family. Do not sideload an APK from a forum.
- Check the developer field in the store. It must say FOMO Labs, Inc.
- If anything asks you to "connect" Phantom, MetaMask or another wallet, close it. Fomo creates its own wallet and never links an external one.
- There is no official Fomo Telegram bot. Any bot with the name is a third party.
- Referral codes are entered inside the app at sign-up. Nobody legitimate will DM you a link that asks for a deposit first.
Fomo vs a regulated exchange
People asking "is Fomo safe" are usually comparing it to Coinbase or Binance in their head. The honest answer is that they protect you against different things.
| Question | Fomo | Coinbase / Binance |
|---|---|---|
| Who holds the keys | You (split-key self-custody) | The exchange |
| KYC | None for trading | Required |
| Deposit insurance | None | Partial, fiat only, varies by country |
| Can the company freeze you | No | Yes |
| Account recovery | Email or Apple ID, or your exported key | Support ticket with ID |
| New meme coins | Seconds after launch | Weeks or never |
| Fee on a $100 trade | $0.50 | $0.60 to $1.50 plus spread |

Where Fomo is not available
Fomo's terms block twelve places outright: Iran, Yemen, Myanmar, North Korea, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Libya, Sudan, Cuba, Venezuela, and the Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions. A catch-all clause adds any country under US, UK or EU sanctions. Perps are closed to all US persons. Robinhood Chain stock tokens are closed to the US, Canada, the UK and Switzerland. Spot trading works everywhere else.
Verdict
Fomo is legit. A funded company with named founders, public store listings and a custody model that keeps your keys out of its hands is about as verifiable as a crypto app gets. Whether it is safe for you depends on what you do inside it. Treat the feed as entertainment, size positions like they can go to zero, export your key on day one, and the app itself will not be the thing that hurts you.
Fomo safety questions
Is the Fomo app a scam?
No. Fomo is a real product from FOMO Labs, Inc., a San Francisco company that has raised about $94M from Benchmark, Index Ventures and Union Square Ventures. The scam risk is around it, not in it: clone apps and a fake site at fomoo.family that drains wallets.
Can Fomo take my money?
Not on its own. The wallet is self-custodial. Your key is split with Shamir secret sharing across your device and Fomo's systems, and the company cannot sign a transaction without your login. You can export the private key and move funds to Phantom or any other wallet whenever you like.
Is Fomo regulated or insured?
No. Fomo is not a bank or a licensed exchange, there is no deposit insurance, and no regulator will refund you if a token goes to zero. The fiat on-ramp partner that handles Apple Pay and card deposits is a regulated payment company, but that protection ends once the money is in your wallet.
Why does Fomo not ask for ID?
Because it never holds your funds. Self-custodial wallets are not required to run KYC. The payment partner may ask for a name and card details when you deposit, and bank withdrawals are mostly limited to US users.
What happens if I lose access to my email or Apple ID?
Your Fomo login is your email or Apple ID, so losing both means losing the wallet unless you exported the private key first. Export it from the wallet settings and store it offline the day you fund the account.
